Environmental Stewardship
Innovate Calgary strives to make sound environmental choices in operating the Alastair Ross Technology Centre (ARTC):
- BOMA Go Green Certification – In 2006, the ARTC received certification in recognition of our efforts to reduce energy consumption and operating costs, and improve waste management.
- Alberta Ecoroof Initiative – In 2006, the ARTC became home to the Alberta Ecoroof Initiative. A collaborative partnership, this initiative saw 3,000-sq-ft of the ARTC’s roof transformed into a green roof to demonstrate the environmental advantages of this technology. Currently, it serves as a research site for a variety of initiatives that will help gather valuable information on how green roofs perform in Calgary’s unique climate.
- Xeriscaping – Seen throughout the ARTC grounds, this method of landscaping reduces the need for supplemental irrigation, making it an ideal choice for Calgary’s semi-arid climate. An attractive garden setting in both summer and winter, the design echoes the river rock banks of the Bow River, and relies on indigenous vegetation.
